We are delighted to announce the completion of our squirrel sculpture! The squirrel was unveiled before the whole school on Wednesday 31st january during a special assembly to mark the occasion. Artis Bozena Nesporova came back to say a few words and witness the children's excitement! The children have been so focussed on the project throughout. They have experienced working alongside a talented artist whose vision, enthusiasm and expertise have allowed the children's ideas to be developed into reality. The process involved the children from start to finish and has enabled them to work with materials and use techniques often deemed too risky to use with children, in a controlled environment. They have welcomed the sculpture by choosing a very apt name for him - Professor Acorn! The squirrel sculpture project was intended to mark our school's continuing journey towards Artsmark Gold Award, a creative quality standard accredited by Arts Council England, to provide a clear framework for schools to plan, develop and evaluate arts, culture and creativity across the curriculum and beyond. The permanence of the structure will enable all the children to remember and enjoy this experience, as well as providing an interactive structure that will enhance our beautiful school grounds for future pupils of Milverton School. The children, staff and parents really pulled together on this unusual project and I personally would like to thank everyone involved. We are very grateful to RGB in Wiveliscombe, Travis Perkins in Wellington and Wellington Tiles for their generously donated materials.
