This
year there are 28 children in our class.
We are looking forward
to lots of interesting activities and day trips during the
year. Please look at the Planning page for more details.
In Year 2, we cover
all subjects in the Primary Curriculum (except Modern Languages).
I teach mainly through topic work and alot of what we do
is linked into our literacy and numeracy work.
Literacy and Numeracy
are taught daily but other subjects may be taught some weeks
and not others depending on how they fit into the ongoing
topic. Over each term, children will cover a broad curriculum
including science, art, history, geography, design and technology,
information technology, music, RE, Citizenship, Health and
PE.
Computer skills are both directly taught and also practised
through other subjects - eg word-processing a poem or rotating
a shape in maths.
We have a Sharing Assembly
once a term when parents can come and enjoy hearing the
children talking about what they have learned. We have Celebration
Assemblies two or 3 three times a term when individual children
may be celebrated for particular achievements.
The children will go
swimming in the Autumn and Summer Terms and they will also
learn Country Dancing during the year - some of them may
wish to dance at the School Fete in June.
As children in Class
2 are now 'top infants' they have extra responsibilities
and are also expected to organise themselves and their work
in a more independent way. This will prepare them for the
harder work they can expect in Key Stage 2 next year.
We pay particular attention
to the emotional wellbeing of the children and we know that
children who feel happy and secure learn best.
We are very proud of our school being an Eco-school and
our class theme is 'Biodiversity'. This means that we look
after the animal and plant life throughout the school -
and keep the birds fed and watered!:-)
